Corundum (var: Sapphire) (Doubly terminated “floater”)
Description
Corundum (var: Sapphire) (Doubly terminated “floater”)A rather GLASSY, fine quality Sapphire crystal from one of the most classic localities in the world for the Corundum variety. This gemmy, very sharp, notably lustrous, doubly terminated, striated, "floater", hexagonal Sapphire crystal has a mostly blue interior, with slight yellow zones. It is pristine on all sides and absolutely water clear in about 50% of the crystal. I must stress how lustrous it is because the photos dont show it as well as I
Beryls in general
and I would say the piece is equally a Sphalerite specimen as it is a Rhodochrosite specimen
which is virtually impossible to find at Viloco
Peridot is rare enough from Myanmar
or collectors of unusually shaped specimens
this is good for the size and the fact that it’s a multi-twinned specimen
which gives way into a thin pale blue-green zone
These specimens are some of my favorite minerals in the world
a form of preserved / fossilized tree resin
It was highly implausible that a find of this magnitude would ever happen considering the extensive work and time that had passed since any notable Andorite specimens had made their way out of Bolivia
There are a couple prismatic colorless Quartz crystal on each side of the Brookite
with only a few contacts here and there
