PMG Delaware Colonial Note 5 Shillings CU 64March 25th, 1776 FR NJ176 Colonial paper currency originated in 1690 with Massachusetts Bay Colony funding military expeditions. During this period, the British French still held control over Americas first colonies which eventually led to the American Revolution (1765 1783). In 1775, Continental Currency issued paper currency to finance the war. It wasnt until 1791 that Alexander Hamilton established the bank of the United States
