過去50年にわたるソフィ・カルの活動の幅と深さを探求するこの北米初の展覧会では、主要な作品からあまり知られていない作品まで、テキストと写真、映像、オブジェとの関係性で作者の人間に対する鋭い探究心を描写しています。本書では、これまでの数多の作品を、「The Spy」「The Protagonist」「The End」「The Beginning」という4つのテーマでわけて収録。自身のベッドで他人が過ごす数時間を記録した「The Sleepers」（1979年）や、路上で見つけた他人を尾行した「Suite Vénitienne」（1980年）、1988年から現在まで制作を続ける「True Stories」などの代表的な作品を収録するほか、ATMの監視カメラで撮影された一連の写真を元に、見知らぬ人々、銀行員、質屋の商人と交流しながら、お金、セキュリティ、匿名の写真の意味へとアプローチした「Cash Machine」（1991-2003年）「Unfinished」（2005年）など、これまであまり研究されてこなかった多くの作品も収録しています。
