Turkana Bowl 84Our collection of vintage Turkana bowls are one of our favourites. This bowl is part of an extremely special collection which took 8 years to curate. Each bowl has been hand carved from indigenous wood by women of the Turkana community in Kenya. Turkana bowls are known for their distinctive and unique shapes as well as their beautiful carving details, showcasing the artisanal wood working skills of the Turkana people. Our antique pottery is from late 18th to early 19th Century sourced from Turkey and surrounding regions
a copper mining region in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The masks are traditionally worn by men during ceremonial dances
The wool is carefully selected and washed before being hand-dyed in small batches using natural pigments
with particular emphasis being placed on the character of the piece and the balancing of perfection and imperfection
