Sarracenia leucophylla var. alba 'Hurricane Creek White' (Baldwin County, Alabama) MK-L58B
Description
Sarracenia leucophylla var. alba 'Hurricane Creek White' (Baldwin County, Alabama) MK-L58BThe 'Hurricane Creek' cultivar name can be applied to Sarracenia leucophylla var. alba clones, or their seeds, that were found at the Hurricane Creek site in Baldwin County, Alabama. Sadly, the natural Hurricane Creek White site was ploughed to create a pine tree plantation, destroying the Sarracenia population. A few pockets of Sarracenia leucophylla may remain, but the most spectacular clones now only exist in hobbyists collections.
They transition to a deep burgundy
Paul Gardener 2008
It is a fast-growing clone that forms large clumps of strong pitchers
inherited from Sarracenia leucophylla
creating a fanged effect
which explains its bright colouration
These translucent patches attract insects into the trap
while the speckled patterning and hairy interior reveal its psittacina lineage
The seeds that produced this clone were originally from Alan at Chruchtown Carnivores
especially near the front
and dense veining makes it a notable specimen
trumpet-like shape and recurved hood make them exceptionally efficient at trapping insects
